Contest Feedback

Unread postby dilbert » Sat Aug 25, 2012 6:36 am

Well the first weekly contest is in the voting stage now...so I thought I would give you guys a chance to give me some feedback on what you liked, disliked, what worked, what didn't, and most of all what you would change if you could? This may be your one and only chance to voice your opinion and help shape this contest so hopefully you will continue to enjoy and participate in it every week.

PS thanks to all who participated in the first contest!

I think the contest went really well, some awesome fakes were made and some were funny.

The only thing I didn't like were the people who only posted pics and didn't fake for the contest, to me it seemed they did so just so they get fakes done for them, but then again, the fakers need headshots/bodyshots to fake from.

And that is probably the only thing I would change, a set pool of pics to fake from, then we could really see who is the better faker.

...that is the whole point of my contest...to get fakers and requesters BOTH involved. This forum would be nothing without both groups, therefore i want a contest that both can participate in....make sense?

perhaps someone else here can host or facilitate a different contest for just the fakers only....

thanks for your feedback.

Oh ok, that makes sense. I can see where you're coming from.

One more thing, who chooses the theme for the contest? Do we have a vote on it, is there a list that you have, or is it random?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found out.

somehow come up with a final 10-15 fakes to vote on. If you leave them all in, the votes could get spread too thin to come up with a winner

The rules are posted on at least 2 separate topics that have the words "dilbert's contest" in them, one of which is still stickied. The themes pool is on 3 different topics posted by me. Glad you found them on your own!

I agree w/ lwedge on this. Other than that, I thought it went great! I wish I wasn't so busy. There were some cuties out there I wanted to fake. Hopefully next round. Great job dilbert!

yeah, there shouldn't be more than 10 fakes to vote on, else it gets really unclear and the votes spread too much. i wouldn't mind if dilbert would judge, i respect him as a faker and i think he has appropriate knowledge to judge such things.

other than that i am kind of dissapointed in the amount of non-fakers involving in this contest (sources, votes).

my other thought is that it appears the contest may be too long in length...source and fake submissions substantially dropped off after the third day of the contest. I am thinking of having the submissions portion only last from Monday - Wednesday evenings and voting from Wednesday evening to Friday evening. This leaves the weekend free from the contest. Any objections??

i don't like that idea. shorter period - maybe, but the weekend shouldn't be excluded, some of us only have free time then.

also: 3 votes for the winner? very dissapointing community.. ^_^

dilbert edit: opps i deleted some of camelot's feedback on accident...im sorry! He was against the idea of shortening the contest...

Your contest why shouldn't you select the finalists? Finally maybe 2 source pics rather than 4.

oppps somehow i messed up and edited camelot's post...when i just meant to quote it and add my comments...sorry for deleting a portion of your feedback..

two major reasons:
1. i want to remain a neutral contest host and not get accused of favoritism ...and
2. i spend enough time on facilitating the contest...don't really want to spend even more time narrowing down the fakes...I'd like to have some time to do some faking, but between mod'ing and running this contest now, i dont have any time for my faking.

...now if someone else wants to step up and help me run the contest...let me know.

Let's talk [see mod section]...my concern would be if you also participate in the contest, there could be some conspiracy perceptions...but thanks your offer is most appreciated.

few ideas:
1. have two votes: one for the fakers to choose which fakes are the top ten, and then the final voted on by the masses
2. make the fakers pick only one of their own fake to be officially entered in the contest. they would need to PM Dilbert with their fake and source URL and everything.
3. a ladder/tourney type vote which would be really complicated, but wouldn't limit fakes, and would get voted in rounds, the winner going on to the next round like a playoff game. The down side is that we'll start with tons of voting, but as soon as someones girl is eliminated they probably won't vote anymore. This is kinda unrealistic would be pretty fair.

my concern would be if you also participate in the contest, there could be some conspiracy perceptions...

I think it's safe to say Camelot's good enough to have at least one fake in the contest I think it would be fine if he wanted to add one of his fakes no matter how good it is. If it's not good (no offense) then it won't get votes so no problem. If he had TEN fakes, and everyone else was limiited to one THAT would be eyebrow-raising... but other than that I think we understand you guys can be impartial. Really, unless we're gonna make things really complicated, someone's gotta step up and just say "these are the best, now go vote."

thanks for feedback...the two votes system is way too complicated and time consuming. we have figured out a way to narrow down the vote to the "mod teams" top 10 fakes for each weekly contest.

I don't want to spend a lot of energy on the voting system as the first week's voting participation was weak to say the least...I believe it got less than 40 total votes.

i have a suggestion to add extra incentive to participate!

what if the winning faker and the source provider get a request thread of their choosing "stickied" to the top of the request forum for a week after the winner is announced? nice way to show off after a great contest

can we put the contest thread back in the normal request section? I feel like particiapation is much better when its in the regular request section! more traffic

I like that. Something for the "winning" requester. Maybe the stickied thread should have to be one with the girl from the contest though.

Good idea, or have the winner stay in the scroll for the week. Also, maybe an award logo attached somehow.

I would like to bring up an issue I noticed in the last contest, my entry was tagged with my name in the final contest, while others, were not. In the name of equality, this should be done to ALL, or none. Singling out any fakker in a contest should not be allowed. ART
